Course participants will demonstrate their ability to use these communication tools and will propose a plan for incorporating communication tools into their curriculum. It examines and categorizes several types of instructional resources that can enhance the K-12 classroom. It provides an opportunity to use standard software to store, organize, manipulate, and export these resources as "hotlists." The module ends with an investigation into the criteria for evaluating instructional web sites. Course participants will explore these topics, examine websites and resources that may facilitate teaching about effective use of the Internet as a source of information, and discuss strategies for incorporating these ideas into the existing curriculum. Module includes: Lesson 9 - Information Literacy Lesson 10 - Basic, Advanced & Original Research Module 5 - Designing Web-Based Instructional Resources Click here for the PDF This module focuses on the publication of instructional resources on the web. Course participants will review basic design principles for effective web-based instruction. They will design a basic form of web-based instruction through the Guided Web Page assignment. Participants will engage in the production of a more complex design of web-based instruction that incorporates, collaboration, critical thinking, cross-disciplinary activities, and use of real world data through the WebQuest assignment. Participants may examine free web-hosting sites. This module includes: Lesson 11 - Web Pages Lesson 12 - Guided Web Pages Lesson 13 - Web Quests Lesson 14 - Student Publishing Module 6 - Implications Click here for the PDF The final module allows the course participants to reflect on various topics that, as a result of incorporating the Internet into one's instruction, may have an impact in the classroom.
