Lesson 3 - Electronic Mail
Objectives
  1. Establish an email account and use standard features of the mailer package.
  2. Explore, analyze, and critique ways electronic mail is used to support the curriculum.

Activities

  1. Complete the "Email Basics" worksheet.
  2. Send the virus protection paragraph to your instructor as an attachment through email.
  3. Email a brief synopsis of a website you visited from Module 1 to three or four of your colleagues or classmates.
  4. View the videotape, Global Quest: The Internet in the Classroom" on the computer or on the VCR. In a small collaborative group (3) read the classroom applications articles regarding email. Discuss your observations regarding the use of email in classroom settings. Are these "add-on" projects or an integration of the technology into the existing curriculum? Do the projects extend learning or take away valuable time to use the technology? Did you observe unintended curricular goals being met? In addition to what you observed, discuss the possibilities and potential limitations you see to effectively incorporating email activities and projects in your classroom. What benefits to the students, curriculum, and teachers did you observer, if any? Take notes.
